Blizzard

Although the weather had been really cold all week, it had been somewhat quite and normal in Hazzard County for the past week. Bo and Luke Duke had been chased once, but had managed to allude Rosco when he had unsuccesfully jumped over the creek and landed in the water.
It was a Saturday and Bo and Luke were just about to leave the house to go to the Boars Nest. Uncle Jesse and Daisy were in Atlanta visiting some friends. They didn't know that trouble was coming. This particular trouble was someone had robbed Boss Hoggs house when he had been at work and a snowstorm that would make things even worse. Boss Hogg had come home and discovered several of his things were missing. He called Rosco and told him what happened and said it had to have been the Duke Boys since he had seen them in town earlier. After Rosco came to pick him up, they speed off towards the Duke Farm to arrest the two Duke cousins. They didnt' know that the actual crooks were standing nearby laughing.
"Our plan is going just like you said Dave." his partner told him.
Dave smiled and looked down the street. "Yes it is Harry, yes it is. Now if the Dukes can stay out of jail then we are free to finish our job. No problem. The law is going to be to busy to chasing the wrong people to ever realize what hit them.
They both laughed and got into their car and speed off towards their hideout.
Back at the Duke Farm, both boys had just come out of the house, when Rosco came speeding onto their property.
Bo groaned and shook his head.
"What wrong Rosco? You fausly accuse someone and now their after you?" Luke quipped as Rosco and Boss Hogg got out of the patrol car.
"Alright you Duke Boys. Your under arrest," Rosco said
"For what?" both boys said at the same time.
"For robbing my house," Boss Hogg told them, chomping on his cigar. "And don't try and say you didnt' do it. I saw ya'll in town earlier."
Bo and Luke looked at each other. They both knew if they protested that these two would not believe them. So when Rosco opened the back door of the patro car and told them to get in, they got in.
Jail--about 30 minutes later.
Bo and Luke walked into the cell and Rosco closed the door behind them.
"Come on Rosco, you know we wouldn't do such a thing." Bo protested.
"Bo's right Rosco." Luke said. "You have to let us out so we can go find who did it."
"Both of you boys, just shut up." Rosco told them. "I know your guilty, so don't try and wiggle your way out of it."
"Rosco," Luke said and hushed when Rosco told him to be quiet again.
"If ya'll exucuse me, i have go patrol the streets. Flash is going to watch you and Enos will be back shortly." Rosco said leaving the room, and leaving Flash behind him.
Bo went over and sat down on the cot, but Luke remained standing.
"How are we going to get out of this one. Uncle Jesse isn't even here to bail us out." Bo said.
Luke turned towards him and smiled "Well then, we're going to have to break out of here. Those crooks are out there and we aint' going to get them by sitting here."
"Yeah and how do you propose we do that?" Bo asked.
Luke was about to answer when he heard some movement outside the window in their cell. Luke was in the proccess of looking when Cooter stuck his face in front of the window. Luke jumped slightly.
"Hey you two. What does Rosco have you in for this time?" Cooter asked.
Luke snorted "Someone robbed Boss Hogg's house and their blaming it on us." he said and added "Your going to have to help us get out of here so, we can go find who did it."
"Well this is your lucky day. I just saw Rosco leave. I'm coming around." Cooter told them and moved away from the window.
"Be careful," Luke hissed
"Well ask, and you shall recieve." Bo said.
"We ain't out of this yet cousin." Luke told him
A few minutes later, Cooter came down the stairs. Flash barked when she saw him and Cooter hushed her and after petting her for a second he reached for the keys on the wall.
"I'll have ya'll out of there in a second." he said.
A second later he had the door open and Bo and Luke patted him on the back.
"Thanks Cooter," Luke said.
"You can thank me later, when we get out of here without being seen. Right now, we have to get out of here, befor they come back." Cooter said leading the way up the staircase.
They made it through the main poilce office with no problem. Just as they were coming out of the building they could see a patrol car turning around the corner.
"It's Enos," Bo said. "What do we do?"
Luke looked around. "In the bushes. Maybe he won't notice us." he said
All three got into the bushes and hid. Luke was right, Enos did not notice them at all. He walked into the police station without even looking anywhere near the bushes.
"Now what do we do?" Bo asked.
"Ya'll can hide at the garage." Cooter told them.
All three took off for the garage. Minutes later Enos came back out of the police station, he looked up and down the street. Not seeing either Bo or Luke, he went back inside to call for Rosco.
Cooter's Garage--a few minutes later.
Bo, Luke and Cooter listened to the CB as Enos talked to Rosco.
"Luke, we're going to have to find somewhere to hide. They'll find us here." Bo said.
Luke looked thoughtfull for a second. "Cooter, can we borrow your car? If we try and get the General then Rosco will be able to find us."
Cooter, who was holding the door to the garaged partially open so he could see out, nodded. "Yeah, just be carefull with it. It's out back." he said and then added "Hey, ya'll ain't gonna like this."
"What?" Bo asked. "Rosco?"
Cooter shook his head. "Him to, but it's starting to snow and it looks like it's going to come down heavy."
"Snow! Since when does it ever snow in Hazzard?" Bo asked.
"I don't know, but i think ya'll had better hide, before Rosco spotts you when he comes in here." Cooter told them
Luke nodded and walked up the ladder to the second floor. Bo followed a second later.
Cooter was trying to act natural when Rosco came walking in a few minutes later.
"Alright Cooter, where are they?" Rosco said looking around the garage.
Cooter looked confused "Where's who Rosco?" he asked.
Rosco looked at him annoyed "Bo and Luke Duke." he said.
Cooter shrugged "Haven't seen them all day? Last i heard, you had them."
"Well i don't anymore." Rosco said huffily
"Well, they ain't here, but you can check if you want to." Cooter told him
Rosco shook his head. "No, their probably already at the farm." he said and left
Cooter went to the door and watched as Rosco got into his car and drove off down the street, followed by Enos
"Ok, you two can come down now." he said after a few minutes.
Bo and Luke walked down the ladder
"Thanks Cooter," Bo said and then added "You know that was almost to easy."
"Yeah, well. We ain't out of the wood yet." Luke told him.
"What can ya'll do. You can't go back to the farm," Cooter said.
"Yeah i know." Luke said. "We're just going to have to hide out, until we can find whoever did this."
"Yeah, but where?" Bo asked.
"Why don't we go to the old Indian Caves until another robbery happens."
Bo nodded and after a couple of minutes he and Luke took off in Cooters car to do just that. It had already started snowing harder.
Hideout--the old Jensen Farm, near the edge of town.
"Hey, Dave. It's starting to snow harder. What do we do?" Harry asked.
Harry looked out the window and frowned. "Since we alreay know where we're going to hit next, why don't we go ahead and do that. Then come back here and lay low for a while. This snow, should pass soon and then we can hit the bank and then get out of this town." he told Dave.
Seconds later, they both took off to rob the Boars Nest. They weren't worried about to many witness, since it was snowing and they new that most people would probably be indoors.
Indian Caves.
Bo and Luke where outside sitting on top of the car, waiting for some sign of the crooks. They both had their jackets on and had them zipped up.
"Snow's getting worse. I don't think they'll try anything now." Bo said.
"You never know." Luke said, his teeth slightly chattering. "Where did this stuff come from?"
"I don't know, but i wish it would go away, until at least we get ourselves cleared." Bo said, blowing into his hands.
About thirty minutes later, a call went out to Rosco from the someone at the Boar's Nest, telling him that they had been robbed. Bo and Luke looked at each other and grinned.
"There going to have to come by here." Luke said and jumped off the hood. "Come on."
Bo got off the car and got into it on the passenger's side. Luke started the engine and waited. Several minutes later a grey four door sedan came by. Luke pulled out and followed at a safe distance. They heard Enos tell Rosco on the CB that he had lost them and the snow was making it harder to see. Rosco told him to give it up and go back to the Police Station and that they would go back out latter, when the snow abbated.
"There heading out of town," Bo said.
Luke didnt' say anything for a second and then snapped his fingers. "Or to the old Jensen place.
Bo smiled "You know, your probably right."
Several minutes later, the sedan pulled off into what looked to be a driveway of some kind only it had trees overgrowing it. It was well hidden and it did make a good hideout. Luke stopped the car on the side of the road. He had the wipers on Cooter's Car going on full. The snow was coming down even heavier now, and the wind was blowing, makeing things worse.
"Let's follow them," Bo said, starting to open the door.
"We will, let me call Cooter first." Luke said.
After calling Cooter and telling him where they were, Bo and Luke both got out of the car and snuck up the driveway, carefully picking there way through the already ankle deep snow.
Meanwhile up at the hideout:
"Dave are you sure someone was following us?" Harry asked.
"I'm pretty sure. They didn't want us to know, but i could tell." Harry said and added "Are those traps set like i told you to."
Dave smiled and nodded. "Set them a long time ago. Whoever is coming won't know their there with all this snow and we will be able to get whoever it is."
Bo and Luke had stopped behind a large clump of trees. They could barely make out the house through the blowing snow.
"Luke, why don't we wait until this snow stops. They ain't going anywhere," Bo shouted over the wind.
Luke shook his head, his teeth were chattering. "This snow may not stop them. If we wait, then they could be long gone before we get back here and then we're up the creek without a paddle." he said. "Come on."
They made a quick break from the trees to the back end of the farmhouse.
"Hey, since your tallest. See if you can't see in the window." Luke said, between teeth chattering.
Bo gave him a dirty look and proceed to go the window to look into the house. Unfortunatly he didn't see the animal trap hidden in the snow and when he proceeded to step up to the window, the trap closed around his right foot. Bo cried out in pain and fell down in the snow. Luke reached him seconds later.
"Bo! Are you ok?" Luke asked worried
"Just get the dang thing off me!" Bo cried. "God that hurts." he added between clenched teeth.
"They probably know we're here." Luke said reaching down and trying to snap the metal jaws back from Bo's ankle.
Both men inside the cabin had indeed heard Bo's cry and went out to investigate it.
Dave was the first to see them. He smiled and took out his gun "Well if it ain't the two Duke boys." he said.
"What are we going to do with them?" Harry asked over the blowing snow.
"Take them inside and get that trap off of this one," Dave said and after grabbing Luke by the arm he pushed him up the steps and into the farmhouse.
Harry bent down and got the trap off of Bo's foot and then pulled him ruffly to his feet. "Move," he said and Bo bit his lip as he limped into the house.
"Well what shall we do with you two?" Dave asked
Harry smiled evilly. "Why don't we tie them up and throw them out into the snow. Let them die slowly of hypothermia." he said.
Dave shook his head. "No, we need them alive for the moment. They after all are going to rob the bank tomorrow and they need to be alive at least till then." he said.
"Ya'll aint gonna get away with this," Luke said as he supported Bo.
Dave grinned. "Oh, we are country boy, we are. Just watch." he said and then turned to Harry. "Put them in the next room and lock the door. I don't won't them trying to get away and while your at it, I'll be nice and get an ice pack for this one."
Harry noded and prodded them along into the next room. About the time Bo and Luke got into the room, Dave came back with an icepack. He shoved it into Luke's hand and Harry closed door and locked it.
Luke, supporting Bo, moved them over to the wall and gently lowered Bo down to the floor. Luke squated down next to him.
"How's it feel?" Luke asked
Bo grunted "Like hell." he said and added "I'm sorry we got us caught."
Luke shook his head "It's not your fault. I'm the one who told you to go look in the window." he said and then put his hand on Bo's right foot. "Ok, i'm going to pull the boot off. Just hold on."
Bo sucked in his breath and bit his lip as Luke slowly pulled the boot off. Setting it aside, he held the foot in his hand and pulled the sock down.
"Well, your luckly. It didnt' break the skin." Luke said.
Bo exhaled loudly and didn't say anything.
"Can you move it?" Luke asked
Bo scrunched his face up in pain as he slowly tried to move his foot around. "A little bit, but it hurts to do it."
Luke nodded "I'm not a medical doctor, but i don't think anything's broken, it may just be badly bruised, although we do need to get you to a hospital to make sure." he said
Bo snorted. "It don't appear we're going to be able to do that anytime soon."
"Yeah i know." Luke said and reached for the ice pack. "We can put this on it to reduce the swelling. It's going to be a little bit cold."
Bo nodded and Luke gently placed the ice pack on his foot. Bo breathed in as the cold hit his throbbing foot. After a minute or so he tried to relax. Luke sat down next to him against the wall.
"At least Cooter knows were we are. Unfortunatly the way that snow is coming down out there i don't think he's going to be able to help us." Luke said and added "And i don't think we're going to be able to escape from here at least for tonight."
Bo leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes and tried to make his foot quite throbbing. "I wouldn't be able to go anywheres anyway." he said
Luke nodded and both boys fell quite for a while.
In Town--about an 1 1/2 later.
Cooter walked in the Police Station, just as Rosco walked out of Boss Hogg's office.
"Cooter." Rosco said. "How in the world did you make it over here with all that snow coming down out there."
Cooter shook his head "Wasn't easy, " he said. "Rosco, I need to talk to you about Bo and Luke."
Rosco frowned "Do you know where they are?"
Cooter sighed "Rosco, you know as well as i do, that they are not guilty of these robberies. Their innocent and you know it."
Rosco didnt' say anything for a long moment and then sighed "Allright, i'm sorry." he said. "Do you know where they are?"
Cooter nodded "They were following the people who did this. Luke told me that he and Bo had found their hideout and were going to investigate, but that was a little bit over an hour ago. I think their in trouble and we need to go find them."
Rosco shook his "Not in this weather," he said and then added "When this snow stopps then we'll go look, but it's to dangerous at the moment to do anything."
Cooter nodded, he knew Rosco was right. He just hopped Bo and Luke would be alright until then.
Meanwhile: back at the hideout.
"Dave are you sure they aren't going to try and get out of that window?" Harry asked.
Dave shook his head. "There is a blizzard outside and they know it. If they escape then they'll freeze out there is seconds and i don't think they'll risk that." he said and then added "Calm down Harry, thing are going to be fine."
Harry shook his head, not that impressed.
In the other room:
Luke was standing near the window, looking out at the blizzard. Bo sat on the floor behind him, head resting against the wall, eyes closed. The ice pack lay disgaurded on the floor beside Bo since it had long since gone hot and the two bad guys were not going to give them another one.
"How bad is it?" Bo asked not opening his eyes.
Luke sighed. "Blizzard like conditions." he said "I don't think opening this window and leaving will do any good." he added and went back to sit beside Bo.
"Your foot feeling any better?" Luke asked, he could tell that the foot was slightly swollen, the cold pack had done only a little bit of good.
"It's ok." Bo responded. What he didn't say was that it hurt pretty bad.
Luke knew better, but he didn't push the point. He instead leaned against the wall and crossed his arms. After a minute, Bo shifted and put his head on Luke's left shoulder.
"Is it cold in here to you?" Bo asked
Luke nodded "A little bit yeah."
"You don't suppose they'll take us in the front room and let us sit by the fire?" Bo asked sarcastically
Luke snorted "No, i don't think they will." he said and then added. "Try to go to sleep, you won't notice it then." Bo laughed slightly. "Yeah, then i'll be dead of hypothermia."
Luke shook his head "Bo." he said exasperated.
Bo didn't say anything else.
The night wore on, and Bo and Luke slept little during that time. Bo's foot was hurting him pretty bad and it kept him awake for most of the night.Their captors did not sleep well themselves, either since they were worried that the weather would make their plans fall through. The Blizzard continued to rage on most of the night. Finally towards daybreak in abadted somewhat. It was still snowing, but not as bad. Luke woke up around 8 and got up and went to go look out the window. Bo continued to sleep restlessly behind him. After thinking for a minute, Luke turned away from the window and knelt down beside Bo. He touched his cousin's shoulder and Bo opened his eyes and looked at him
"Snow stop?" Bo asked, yawning.
"Pretty much. It isn't like it was before." Luke said. "How does your foot feel?"
Bo shook his head "I'm not going to be going anywhere, if that's what you mean. I don't think i can walk."
Luke sighed. "I don't want to leave you." he said.
Bo shook his head again. "I'll be alright. I can take care of myself. Hopefully they won't come in here until your back with help and then they won't be able to do anything about it."
Luke looked skeptical, but Bo again assured him he would be allright. Luke then wen't to the window and managed a few minutes of tugging to get it opened. After telling Bo he would try to be as quick as possible he climbed out of the window and managed to jump away from it, so if there were any more traps he would miss them. Managing not to step in any traps, he made a break, as fast as he could through the snow to the road. It took a couple of minutes to get the car started, but it finally started and he took off, as fast as he could towards town. What he didn't know was that Cooter and them were also out looking for him. He also didnt' know that Bo was going to be in some trouble in a couple of minutes.
About 10 minutes after Luke left, Dave came opened the door and came into the room. Noticing that one of the cousin's was gone he looked towards the window and then looked very annoyed. He called for Harry and then went over to Bo.
"Ok, kid. When did your cousin leave?" he said somewhat angry.
Harry came in the room, before Bo had the time to say anything. "What is it?"
Dave didn't look away from Bo. "His cousin escaped."
Harry let out an explosive sigh "Now what are we going to do?"
Dave shrugged "We continue on with our plan. We take him along with us and go rob the bank. After we do that we dispose of him and get out of town."
"Ya'll ain't gonna get away with this." Bo said, suddenly wishing that he had not told Luke to go.
Dave smiled evily and reached down and put a hand on Bo's injured foot and squeezed. Bo had to bite his lip to keep from crying out in pain. Dave noticed it and squeezed a little bit harder, but Bo kept himself from crying out. Dave finally let go after a minute.
"We are gonna get away with this. Just watch." Dave said and looked at Harry. "Get some ropes so we can tie his hands."
Harry nodded and went in to the other room to get a rope. While he was gone Dave picked up Bo's boot.
"My foot is swollen. I don't think your going to be able to get that on me." Bo told him
"I will get it on you. We don't won't your foot to freeze, now do we." he said.
Dave forced the boot on over Bo's injured foot. He managed to get it on after a couple of minutes and by that time Bo's eyes were swimming in tears. Harry had come back and then tied Bo's hands behind his back. He then pulled Bo roughly to his feet and put him over his shoulder and with Dave in the lead walked out of the house and to the sedan waiting out front. He threw Bo into the back seat and got in behind him. Dave got in on the drivers side and started the car. A few minutes later, they were on there way into town. However, they soon found out, as Luke had that the roads were difficult to drive on with all the snow and ice on them.
Meanwhile: As Luke neared town, he could see Cooter's tow truck and two police cars heading his way. He stopped and got out to wave them down. They noticed him and pulled over themselves.
"Hey Lukas," Cooter said as he got out of his tow truck. "Did you find them? Where's Bo?"
"I left Bo back there. I was hoping to find ya'll quickly so i could make it back in time so they didn't know i was gone." Luke told him
Cooter nodded. Rosco stepped up to the group.
"Rosco, we aren't involved in this. Those two guys that caught us are and are planning on robbing the bank today." Luke told him and then added "We have to get back there, i don't want them to know i've gone and do something to Bo.
Rosco nodded and said that Luke should lead the way. Cooter told Luke to leave the car and get in the tow truck. A minute later they were on their way back to Jensen Farm.
A couple minutes later, they passed the sedan on there way into town. Each of them turned around as best they could and followed the car. The chase was on. A couple of minutes later the sedan had pulled ahead a little bit more and then suddenly hit a slick patch and slid off the road. They say they were at Hazzard Lake and that it was frozen. Dave and Harry knew if they could get across it, that they would be home free. They grapped Bo and took him along for insurance. Luke and the others saw the car and pulled off the road. They quickly got out of there cars and followed the two bad guys. They caught up with them seconds later. Rosco fired his gun in the air and both the crooks stopped. Dave then made a fast break and half ran and half slid to the other side. Enos quickly took off after him. Harry, however was standing in the middle of the lake holding Bo and a gun to Bo's head.
"If you come any closer. This kid is dead." he said.
Luke, Rosco and Cooter staid where they were. Suddenly the ice where Harry was standing started to crack. He looked down and after a seconds thougth, threw Bo down on the ice and quickly took off after Dave. Cooter, taking the long way around on the shore followed. Luke walked out to Bo. The ice was continuing to crack and if something wasn't done soon, it would give way and Bo would fall.
Bo looked fearfully at Luke "Don't come any closer. It's going to break." he said frantically.
Luke stopped. "Bo. Can you get your arms untied." he asked and after Bo shook his head he sighed. "Your going to have to slide your way over here."
"I can't move." Bo said
"Your going to have to." Luke said firmly.
Bo took in a deep breath and inched his way a little towards Luke. He stopped when the ice cracked some more. Biting his lip, he slid a little bit more. Suddenly the ice gave way and it and Bo fell into the icy lake water.
"Bo!" Luke cried. He watched Bo bob once and then go below the surface and didn't come back up. He knew that Bo, with his arms tied and his injured foot, wasn't going to be able to swim and if he didn't do something, his cousin was going to drown.
As Rosco tried to hold him back, Luke quicklly ran to the whole and jumped in. The icy water immediatly took his breath, but he managed to get it and quickly dived below the surface.
A minute or two passed and during that time Cooter and Enos came back with the two criminals. While Cooter staid with Rosco, Enos put the two crooks in the patrol car.
Seconds later Luke broke the surface of the Lake, he had Bo with him. Carefull of how they walked, Rosco and Cooter walked over and pulled them both out and over to dry ground.
Luke lay on the snow breething heavily. Bo was gasping for breath and coughing at the same time. He had held his breath for as long as he could and if Luke hadn't had gotten him when he did, he would have started drowning.
"Are ya'll ok?" Rosco asked.
Luke nodded, continuing to breath hard. Bo shook his head.
"I think we should get them to the hospital." Cooter said.
Rosco nodded and stood up. He helped Luke to his feet and walked him to the patrol car. Cooter untied Bo's hands and carefully picked him up. He carried him to the patrol car and put him in the front seat. Rosco got the blankets out and gave one each to Bo and Luke. After telling Enos to take those two in, he took the boys to the hospital.
Couple of hours later--
Everything was going well. The loot had been picked up from the Jensen Farm and returned to Boss Hogg and the Boar's Nest. Rosco cleared both Bo and Luke of any charges and Dave and Harry were in jail and would get a hearing when the circuit court judge could get here. The snow had stopped and a peace had fallen over the land. All the kids were happy and were out playing in the snow.
Bo had been admitted over night to the hospital so the doctors could keep an eye on his foot and if he develped any problems from being in the cold water. Luke was going to stay with him, mostly so they could keep an eye on him to, but he had not been admitted.
Bo sighed drowsily and sank further into the blankets. His foot had been wrapped and the doctors had given him somehting for the pain. Now he was feeling warm and no pain.
Luke came in carryin a bowl of soup. He smiled as he sat it down on the table beside Bo's bed. No sonner than he had put it down, did he sneeze.
"Bless you." Bo said.
"Thanks." Luke said and then added "Bo, i'm sorry i left you earlier."
Bo shook his head "Its ok. Don't worry about it," he said
Luke smiled and shook his head. He managed to get Bo to eat the soup before he fell asleep.
The next day, Bo was release and ordered to stay off his foot for a week and if he had to move around he was to use crutches. As soon as the roads cleared Jesse and Daisy came home a couple of days later. Dave and Harry were sentenced to 30 years in prison and no probation. Life returned to normal in Hazzard County.
